NEW SESSIONS THIS YEAR

Turning Data into Action: Leading & Lagging Indicators for District Success

This interactive workshop explores how the High Reliability Schools (HRS) framework can serve as a foundation for aligning district-wide initiatives to clear, high-level goals. Participants will learn how to customize HRS Leading Indicators and Sub-Indicators to reflect their district’s unique priorities and challenges. Using examples from Westminster Public Schools, the session will provide practical strategies for adapting HRS indicators to drive systems alignment, ensuring coherent implementation across departments and schools. Participants will leave with actionable ideas for modifying and applying HRS principles to their own contexts.

Scheduling for Success: Intentional Groupings in Competency-Based Education

Scheduling in a Competency-Based Education (CBE) system can be complex. Since the effectiveness of CBE relies heavily on the quality of academic groupings, improper scheduling can lead to significant setbacks. Various methods exist for grouping students in CBE classrooms, with varying levels of success. Westminster Public Schools (WPS) has 15 years of experience in CBE, gaining insights into effective and ineffective grouping strategies. In this two-part workshop, attendees will initially learn to calculate Grade-Level Equivalencies (GLEs) based on proficiency scale achievements, and then apply these GLEs to form efficient CBE classroom groupings.

From Concept to Classroom: Tools to Support Multi-Level Planning and Instruction

In Westminster Public Schools, classroom instruction doesn’t follow a one-size-fits-all script—it’s responsive, timely, and aligned to where students are and where they need to go. This session explores how our Just-in-Time Learning Model shifts the focus from reteaching everything a student may have missed to delivering the right instruction at the right time based on real-time data. Participants will dive into how we build instructional systems that prioritize essential pre-requisite skills, leverage formative data to drive next steps, and avoid unnecessary remediation that slows learning down. This approach ensures all students, regardless of starting point, are supported in accessing rigorous, grade-level content and achieving their end-of-year targets. Join us to learn how Just-in-Time Learning fuels equity and acceleration in a competency-based environment.

Education in the Age of AI: A Path to Empowerment, Not Replacement

The rise of AI has sparked fears about teachers being replaced, but the real opportunity is empowerment. In this breakout session, you will see how artificial intelligence is transforming the work of educators, not by taking their place but by expanding their capacity to guide, inspire, and personalize learning.

We will explore the idea that the future belongs to directors, not doers. With AI handling the heavy lift of creation, educators can step into the role of directors who set vision, frame purpose, and make instructional choices while AI becomes the tool that executes at scale.

You will also experience a new tool that allows teachers to generate proficiency scales, build scope and sequence plans, create differentiated lessons that meet students at their point of need, and design engaging activities, quizzes, and games that bring mastery learning to life.

The promise of competency-based education has always been about ensuring every learner is supported until mastery is reached. With AI, that promise becomes actionable. Join us for a hopeful and forward-looking session that will provide both inspiration and practical strategies for leading in the age of AI.

Agency-Inspired Classrooms: What a Difference It Makes

Description: Inspired by the book Agency by Design, discover how student agency can transform teaching and learning. This interactive workshop shows how shifting control back to students not only lightens the teacher’s load but also sparks joy, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning.
