WPS TEACHERS COME FROM ACROSS THE USA
The latest group of Westminster Public School teachers come from 14 different states, bringing a wide range of teaching and life experience to the classroom.
Some of the district's new teachers are straight out of college, while a handful of them have more than 20 years experience. In all 84 new teachers joined the district this year.
The new group met at Westminster High School on Tuesday, July 30 for a welcome breakfast, followed by a week of intensive training before joining the veteran staff for another week of preparation.
“You will hear the word “family” a lot over the coming years because that idea is really central to who we are and what we believe,” said Superintendent Jeni Gotto. “Your professional and personnel success is something we all value and celebrate”
She also told them that their journey into a Competency Based Education System would be rewarding. “We focus on the individual student to help them reach their full potential. For some, that means moving forward quickly—Accelerating. For others it may take more time to fill in gaps—the emphasis is on competency and preparing students for life.” She added, “as you talk to our senior teachers they will tell you that they would never go back to an older, traditional model.”
